A woman across the sea: Virginie Hériot
A long-forgotten figure of maritime adventures, Virginie Hériot, gold medallist in sailing at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 became a reference, as a sport heritage even though his life was short. Born in 1890 in an easy family that loves sea cruises, she discovers the Mediterranean. As a result, she acquired the certainty of wanting to become a navigator: it would be done with such an exceptional and tragic fate as she died at sea in 1932, a victim of a syncope aboard her sailboat during a regatta in Arcachon. Also full of letters, she leaves behind her many travel books and other poems.
