The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean world through some accounts of Maghrebian travellers from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries

Meeting with Majid Embarech, Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary History

When it comes to the Mediterranean, geographical representations often oppose the south shore and the north shore. This geographical opposition, of an innocent and legitimate appearance, conceals in fact another opposition to a civilizational and cultural character, whose substrate remains the antagonism between Islam and Christianity. The conference will highlight some stories left by Maghreb travellers (and particularly Moroccans) between the 16th and 20th century.
