#19 - A la rencontre du street art sur Nice Est

After underground debuts in the 1980s, street art has experienced global development and recognition as a full art with artists such as Basquiat and Keith Haring at the origin of the movement as well as Banksy (the most recognized) followed by Kaws, Shepard Fairy (Obey), Bordalo, Mobstr, Stik, Jonone... At the national level we find JR and Invader, Bando
In Nice, the policy for street art took a new rise in 2018 at the initiative of the mission entrusted by Christian ESTROSI to the assistant to culture, Robert Roux. Its first action was to embellish and use, the palissades of the tram site as media for works by local artists. This project appealed to the talent of the excellent graffiti Niçois, Thomas Debatisse alias Otom who mobilizes, in addition, many other local graffiti artists in his wake (Jennifer Miller, Faben, Artmor1, Brian Caddy....) in particular through his association specializing in urban culture (graff, bmx, music, dance), www.wholestreet.asso.fr.

The 109, a third-party cultural place on 2 hectares based in the east of Nice, has been hosting some of the city’s most beautiful street art works since 2019. The numerous frescoes produced by more than 30 local and international artists highlight the exterior and interior walls of the site.

The 6-month residence offered in 2022 to the artist Speedy Graphito, an internationally recognized artist, has made it possible to highlight the site with monumental achievements that shaped the aesthetics of the place.

Since 2023, the Whole Street Association has now been housed at 109 to better radiate street art in the city.
Whole street has also coordinated the collective jam (performance of improvised collective street art) created for the inauguration of free expression walls especially on the neighborhoods is: avenue du Xvième Corps and on the enclosure wall of 109. These walls allow amateur and street art artists to express their talent freely.

In 2023, the main social lender of the city, Côte d’Azur Habitat, wished to celebrate its 100 years of existence by ordering Whole Street to produce 6 monumental frescoes on the walls of some of its buildings in the eastern neighborhoods of the city.

The neighborhoods of Nice are now home to some of the city's most beautiful street art frescoes.

In 2024, the Tour de France passed in front of 109 and on this occasion a new jam orchestrated by Whole Street will allow for a collective realization of 80 meters.

A project also sees the day on the walls of omnisport Pasteur by the artist César Malfidano.
We invite you to discover in the neighborhoods is Nice the most beautiful street art works during a bike ride that starts from 109 to finish on the free expression wall of the Xvth body or Nice chips.
