Raoul Dufy, the miracle of imagination

Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) is now known for its brightly coloured palette and the cheerfulness of its subjects, of which any form of doubt or concern is banished.
This exhibition invites to discover its artistic path, since the revelation ofLuxe, Quiet and Voluptéd’Henri Matisse, where the need to make the « miracle of imagination» appears to him fully, until the development of his touch in the eyes of Paul Cézanne and finally the development of his own pictorial language in his Vence workshop.
Its singular style is spread through the exhibition’s journey in the landscapes of Normandy and Provence, the design of the workshop, the views of ports and the swimmers, and the musicality of parties and receptions. And if the Norman is above all a painter, he also very soon seeks to transpose the recurring motifs of his imagination into the illustration of works, textile creation or ceramics.
This project is an opportunity to rediscover the richness of the Dufy collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, which is mainly due to the generosity of the artist’s wife, the Niçoise Eugénie Brisson.
