Beautiful voci or Italian influence in German style
Works by Carissimi, Bononcini, Kerll, Reincken & Buxtehude
During the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century, the commercial development and the emergence of a rich class of traders favoured
development of arts and music. Baroque composers live a time of strong cultural expansion, and their works reflect the optimism and energy of a relatively opulent and dynamic period in a Europe confident in its future. In the 17th century, vocal music occupies a prominent place in the musical landscape. Through his rhetorical and expressive qualities, the voice reigns over music, and
literary writing remains the support of musical language. Instruments will only be permanently weakened from this hierarchy much later. ♪
vocal and instrumental music in the 17th (and 18th) century are thus the result of numerous exchanges in Europe, both because of relations
commercial, for example between cities such as Venice and Hamburg, that of the existence of the Holy Roman Germanic Empire, or of
travels of many foreign composers who traveled through Europe. We will enjoy the correspondence and nuances between the Italian style,
with virtuosity and exuberant expressiveness, and the German style, synthesis of different currents, more austere and intimist, through precious
motets and cantates of the greatest composers of this time as well as a magnificent repertoire for organ and viola of gambe.
