Heritage Centre - The Senate of Nice

Heritage

Until the early 17th century, Nice had no court of appeal but depended on those of Turin. As a result, the Niçois wishing to apply to one of these jurisdictions had to undertake a often perilous journey and their costs. They never ceased to claim their own instance that they obtained in 1614. In addition to judicial competence, the Senate is involved in administrative, political and religious matters. He remained in Nice until 1848.
